bibliography

Part of a marble slab reconstructed from 24 pieces ( 88 x 53 x 6; letter height: 2 - 2.5 cm). Found at Nedvigovka in 1869-70, now in Hermitage (inv. TH 319). Above the inscription were two eagles on either side of a crown or garland. See also Levinskaya 1996, 244-45 (no.3). The use of fictive sibling terminology (“brothers”) among members has been integrated within the title of the group.

This was dedicated to Theos Hypsistos (“Highest god”) during the reign of king Tiberius Julius Rheskouporis, friend of Caesar and friend of the Romans, pious one, by the adopted brothers who revere (eispoiētoi adelphoi sebomenoi) Theos Hypsistos, who set up this monument, inscribing their names: Balodis son of Demetrios . . . (the remainder of the names are largely fragmentary — see the Greek).
