bibliography

Inscription found near the place of sacrifice ("Boukopion") northeast of the acropolis (modern Vigli). If the term "θιάσο" here is a reference to a "society" or association, then this would be among the earliest attestations of this term for an association. The term can also be used more generally for a "revel", "troop", "company" or a "banquet". The meaning of the term Κόχλιος here is also unclear here, though the term usually refers to a snail with a spiral shell or any other item with a spiral or spiral effect (e.g. a screw). It may be used as a place name in this case, in which case "The Kochlian society" would be the translation.

The spiral society (thiasos) (?).
