bibliography

Slab of marble with moulding at the top; the bottom portion is missing (82 x 35.5 x 11 cm; line–height: 1 cm). The monument was purchased in 1994 from a dealer who claimed that it was found at Yeniköy, north of Gygaia (a.k.a. Koloe) lake. Euthydemos was likely the high–priest of the Attalid regime (see the comments on GRA 121). The Euthydemos of our inscription may be identified with the Euthydemos who erected an altar for Leto at Pergamon, which would also date this altar to the second century BCE (IPergamonAsklep 120):

Λητοῖ ǀ Εὐθύδηµος ἀρχιερεὺς ǀ κατὰ συνταγήν.

Euthydemos, the high–priest, dedicated this to Leto according to a command.

(column 1) When Euthydemos was high–priest and Kadoas son of Pleri was priest. Petition by Kadoas the priest of Apollo on the Shores, who held the priesthood for many years, to the high–priest Euthydemos:

Previously, when Antiochos was king, I made a request before Nikanor the high–priest that a monument would be set up in the temple (10) recording his name, mine, and those of the initiates (mystai).  Now if it seems agreeable, I request for you to write Asklepiades the manager in order that he may assign me a place in which to set up the monument (column 2) on which I will record your name, my name, and those of the initiates.

Diophantos to Attinas: I have appended for you a copy of the letter written to me by Euthydemos, the high–priest.

(20) Euthydemos to Asklepiades: Concerning the petition which was sent to me by Kadoas, the priest of Apollo on the Shores, let it be just as he requested.

Menekrates son of Hermogenes, Metrodoros son of Mithres …
