Sounion (Attica, Greece and Macedonia — Pleiades map), 400-250 BCE
SEG 54 (2004), no. 256
= AGRW ID# 22760
Horos fragment of a marble plaque. Found at the silver mine. Now in the Laureion Museum (inv. 34). On "contributors" (eranistai) as ongoing associations rather than merely ad hoc loaning groups, see the recent study by Thomsen 2015. The phrase "sold on condition of release" (πεπραμένων ἐπὶ λυσει) denotes not an actual sale, but the offering of securities for a loan with an expectation that the pledged securities would be "released" upon repayment of the loan.
. . . Marker (horos) of a work-place and slaves (?) . . . sold on condition of release to . . . Name and the contributors (eranistai) for a loan of 3000 drachmas.
