Eukleides (?), descendent of Apollonios for three generations, Xanthian, is a glorious man and civic councilor like his ancestors. He has held the civic office of the market-overseer for the homeland. He was civic president twice–also during the national festival, head of the gymnasium of the young men (neoi) twice, director of contests of the ancestral gods, and eponymous civic leader. He has also been honored by the sacred athletic and theatrical synods (synodoi) with an inscribed image and with the erection of a statue. He has been priest and treasurer of the ancestral gods, treasurer of the city (polis), superintendent of works of the gymnasium in the city and of the construction of the bronze altar of the ancestral gods. He has also fulfilled the remaining civic service roles (litourgia) on behalf of his descendants. The Council and the People of the metropolis of the Xanthians of the Lycian people honored him with a statue because of his modest life and orderly behavior and because of the leadership positions he fulfilled in an honor-loving manner as outlined above. The cost of setting up the statue was taken from our own resources.
