To good fortune! The dyers (bapheis) honored Marcus son of Menandros, an honor–loving man and contributor to public service, who has served as supervisor of the ἔργον (ergon) of the dyers often and on behalf of his children, as commander, as overseer of the market, as purchaser of the grain, as secretary of the Council of the People (dēmos), as record–keeper, as supplier of oil for the Board of Ten, as superintendent of works relating to the Erotes (i.e. gods of Love) that are in the one–hundred column structure and also in the meeting–place (10) of the elders (gerousia) … the bridge over the aqueduct at the Lykos river … supervisor of the envoys to festivals, twice vice–president of the Council of the People, and in many other things he has been useful to the homeland.
