Decree of the Attalos-devotees (Attalistai). Proposal of the association (koinon) of the Attalos-devotees: Since the priest of the synod (synodos), Kraton son of Zotichos, made many, great demonstrations of his goodwill towards the Attalos-devotees during his lifetime, having the greatest concern for each of those gathered by him who attended—both as individuals and as a group—and leaving nothing undone with respect to zeal and the pursuit of honor. And since he arranged many good things and gifts for the synod from the king, (10) receiving them in accordance with the king’s goodwill towards them in every respect and being worthy of our group’s (hairesis) and gathering’s (synagōgē) name (i.e. he was devoted to the Attalids). Furthermore, giving not a small amount from his own funds, he covered the cost of the “choruses,” wanting to continue the benefactions he had previously granted. Ending his days in Pergamon, he provided for the synod (synodos), writing a letter to the Attalos-devotees and leaving behind a sacred law (nomos), which King Attalos sent to us, and he (Kraton) made more remarkable his existing goodwill towards the association. (20) Through this law, he dedicated the sanctuary of Attalos (Attaleion) near the theatre to the Attalos-devotees while he was still alive, and he also set up the house by the royal residence, which formerly belonged to Mikrias. He dedicated and consecrated for the association 10,500 Alexandrian drachmas from which, using the income, we have engaged in sacrifices and meetings (synodoi), just as he himself had arranged concerning everything in his legislation. He also dedicated slaves to the Attalos-devotees, which he has explained in detail concerning everything in the law established by him. He also left behind (30) appropriate equipment for the maintenance of the sanctuary (temenos), wanting to free the Attalos-devotees of the expenses of these things and of the “choruses.” Therefore, in order that the association of the Attalos-devotees might appear worthy in showing gratitude toward benefactors, it was decreed by the Attalos-devotees that the sacred law left behind by Kraton be authoritative, and to celebrate a day named after Kraton and … (remainder lost).
