bibliography

Part of a base of white marble (81 x 51 x 43 cm). Found in 1878 west of the temple of Apollo (inv. Ε 66). These groups may be temporary formations for the purpose of providing honors, rather than ongoing associations with clear organizations. However, we do know that immigrants (esp. Romans), merchants, and shippers did regularly form more permanent associations on Delos and elsewhere, so this is also a possibility with some of these groups here.

The Athenian, Roman, and other Greek settlers (katoikountes) on Delos and the resident (parepidēmountes) merchants (emporoi) and shippers (nauklēroi) set this up for Titus Manlius . . . Torquatus (?) . . . son of Titus, on account of the virtue he demonstrated towards them.  This was dedicated to Apollo, Artemis, and Leto.   . . .The supervisor Nikanor son of Nikanor of Leukonion subdivision planned the production and dedication (?).
