Base found to the right of the entrance into the market (agora). The businessman or merchant may belong to the association of businessmen attested in other inscriptions from Ephesos.

. . . The Council and the People (?). . . honored Lucius Vibius Varius, praetor of the Roman People and legate of Caesar.  Euodion son of Philotheos who is engaged in business (pragmateuomenos) in Ephesos – having asked permission – set this up for his own benefactor from his own resources.
