Base found to the right of the entrance into the market (agora). The businessman or merchant may belong to the association of businessmen attested in other inscriptions from Ephesos.

. . . The Council and the People (?). . . honored Lucius Vibius Varius, praetor of the Roman People and legate of Caesar.  Euodion son of Philotheos who is engaged in business (pragmateuomenos) in Ephesos – having asked permission – set this up for his own benefactor from his own resources.

[ἡ βουλὴ καὶ ὁ δῆμ]ος | [ἐτ]είμ[η]σαν | Λούκ[ιο]ν Οὐείβιον Οὐᾶ|ρον στρατηγὸν δήμο[υ] || Ῥωμαίων καὶ πρεσβευτ[ὴν] | Καίσαρος· | Εὐοδίων Φιλοθέου πραγμα|τευόμενος ἐν Ἐφέσῳ αἰτη|σάμενος ἀνέστησεν ἐκ τῶν || ἰδίων τὸν ἑαυτοῦ εὐεργέτην.
