Grave of the “Best of the Gardeners” (undated) Kibyra area [Boubon] - Lycia

Kibyra area [Boubon] (Lycia, Asia Minor — Pleiades map), undated
BE (1973), no. 463 = Friedel Schindler, Die Inschriften von Bubon (Nordlykien) (Vienna: Hermann Böhlaus, 1972), no. 36 = Christina Kokkinia, Boubon: The Inscriptions and Archaeological Remains (Athens, 2008), no. 45 = PHI 283170 = AGRW ID# 13533

Rectangular altar (70 x 26 x 14 cm; letter height: 2-4 cm). Boubon (sometimes transliterated Bubon) was located about 20 km south of Kibyra. Although no guild is mentioned, this inscription is included here since the deceased refers to fellow-farmers in declaring his superiority.

Having lived well and died, Daphnos, the best of the gardeners (kēpouroi), prepared his own grave after much toil.  That’s it.
