Grave for a Leader of the Merchants (undated) Apameia Kelainai - Phrygia

Apameia Kelainai (Phrygia, Asia Minor — Pleiades map), undated
IGR IV 796 = IPhrygR 309 = PHI 272502 = AGRW ID# 6111

Apphia, mother of Papias, made the tomb from her own resources for her son Hesychos, leader of the merchants (enporiarchēs).  His companions (synbiōtai; i.e. likely members of a merchant association) and thirty-two others were anxious (to remember him).  Farewell good hero!
