Dedication by the “Father” of an Association of Tax-farmers (?) (undated) Berytos - Syria and Phoenicia

Berytos (Syria and Phoenicia, Greater Syria and the East — Pleiades map), undated
J. Aliquot, MUSJ 62 (2009) 75-128 = SEG 59 (2009), no. 1669 = AGRW ID# 24287

bibliography

The editors of SEG clarify that this most likely involves a group of tax-farmers responsible for collecting a taxation of one thirtieth (tricesima) on transmitted goods. The title "father" would refer to either a benefactor or a leader with some role within the group (see Harland 2009).

Lucius Gaius Solon, father of the association (koinon) of the thirtieth, dedicated this.
