Papyrus (37 x 23 cm), now in Ann Arbor, Michigan (P. Mich. inv. 720). The papyrus is from the archive of Kronion, the writer of laws (nomographer) of Tebtynis.

. . . in the xth year of Tiberius Caesar Augustus, Heron son of Orseus, with whom they must have a monthly banquet on the 12th of the month, each member contributing monthly dues of twelve silver drachmas which have been determined for each on an equal basis.  The president (prostatēs) is permitted to exact a pledge from anyone who fails to pay his dues in these or any other matters. If a member behaves badly owing to drunkenness, he shall be fined whatever the association (koinon) decides. If a member is sent an announcement of the meeting (syllogos) and does not attend, he shall be fined one drachma if the meeting is in the village and four drachmas if it is in the city.

A member shall contribute two drachmas if he marries, two drachmas for the birth of a male child, one drachma for the birth of a female child, four drachmas if land is purchased, four drachmas for a flock of sheep, and one drachma for cattle.  If a member ignores someone (i.e., another member) who is in distress and does not assist in helping him out of his trouble, he shall pay 8 drachmas.

Anyone who shoves in front of another at the banquets and takes his seat shall pay an extra 3 obols to sit in his own place. If a member prosecutes or calumniates another member, he shall be fined 8 drachmas. If a member commits intrigue against, or corrupts the home of another member, he shall pay 60 drachmas.   If a member has been arrested for a private debt, they shall stand surety for him for up to one hundred silver drachmas for 30 days, during which time he shall release the men from their pledge.

May health prevail! If one of the members (synoditai) should die, all of the members shall be shaved and shall hold a banquet for one day, each member contributing one drachma and two loaves immediately. In the case of other deaths (i.e., the death of family members), they shall hold a banquet for one day. Whoever does not shave his head shall be fined 4 drachmas. Whoever does not defile himself (i.e. attend the funeral and encounter corpse impurity) or has not put a wreath at the tomb shall be fined 4 drachmas. Other matters shall be as the association decides.

This law shall be valid when signed by the majority of members. When validated, it shall be returned to the president.
