bibliography

Horos slab of pentelic marble found in a cistern near the church of Dionysios the Areopagite (13 x 19.2 x 4 cm; inv. I 1978). On "contributing-members" (eranistai) as ongoing associations rather than merely ad hoc loaning groups, see the recent study by Thomsen 2015. The phrase "sold on condition of release" (πεπραμένων ἐπὶ λυσει) denotes not an actual sale, but the offering of securities for a loan with an expectation that the pledged securities would be "released" upon repayment of the loan.

When Demetrios was civic leader (archōn), marker (horos) of a house sold on condition of release for a loan of 700 drachmas to the contributing-members (eranistai).
