bibliography

Fragments of white marble found in the theater. The inscription, which is too fragmentary (and heavily reconstructed) to translate, is a list of priests or functionaries involved in rites for Dionysos, Hephaistos and, probably, Panhellenic Zeus (lines 2-3). A group of initiates in Dionysos' mysteries is likely involved, since there is mention of someone in charge "of the mysteries" ([τῶ]ν μυστηρ̣[ίων] in line 11) and at least one hierophant, a revealer of sacred objects (line 33). Lines 17-50 seem to be a list of deities (including Zeus, Athena, Homonoia, Bromios, Helios, Kore, Demeter, and Semele) along with the names of individuals who played the role of specific deities, perhaps in some sort of re-enactment of the stories of the gods. Included in this list is a "new Dionysos" (in line 46), which may refer to an emperor (Commodus) identified with the god. See also the Dionysiac initiates who identify Commodus as the "new Dionysos" in IEph 293.

Too fragmentary to translate.
