Slab of white marble first observed in 1872 in a military post that was subsequently destroyed. The similarities to a well-known biblical character, Lydia the Thyatiran purple-dealer at Philippi (Acts 16:14), and the circumstances in which it was seen only by one individual and subsequently lost, have caused some to question its authenticity.
The city honored as a benefactor the foremost person from among the purple-dyers, Antiochus the son of Lykos from Thyatira.

I think there is a minor misspelling here. The text in Pilhofer vol. 2 reads πυρφοροβάφων but here προ|φυροβάφ[ων.

Thanks Michael. I checked Pilhofer II 697 and it matches the Greek text we have for the entry. That said, I have the first edition of Pilhofer; perhaps he changed it in the second edition? Please let me know and I’ll add a note accordingly.

I just checked the 2nd edition and it says πορ|φυροβάφ[ων

Thanks for catching this, Philipp. I have made the correction here.
